This highly regarded course presents the
theory and practice of designing and
constructing concrete pavements.
The course is intended primarily for engineers
and technicians with a need for more in-depth
knowledge of current concrete pavement
technology. Both theory and practice are
covered in this course and the discussion
ranges from basic definitions to the latest
design and construction methods.
The course is modular and can be adapted to
the specific needs of the sponsor. The
course typically includes:

• Overview of concrete pavement design
methods
• AASHTO pavement design procedure
(1993 and 1998)
• Mechanistic-Empirical pavement design
procedure
• StreetPave (ACPA design method)
• Subgrades and
bases
• Concrete mix

• Life-cycle cost
analysis
• Strategy selection for pavement
rehabilitation
• Pavement restoration procedures
• Overlay design and construction
This course is typically requested by state
agencies prior to ramping up their concrete
pavement program. Attendees have included
agency personnel, contractors, consultants,
testing companies, military personnel and
university professors and graduate students.
Two courses are offered per year on a
regional basis. The course duration is
typically three days but can be altered at the
sponsor’s request.
